The Louvre Museum is the most visited museum of the world and one of the ‘must see’ sights in Paris. It is located in the 1st arrondisement next to Seine and it is easy to reach.

The Palace itself was first built as a fortress in the late 12th century. The Museum entrance is a large glass pyramid in the courtyard. There are huge collections of sculptures, paintings, and antiques all around the world. The most popular painting is of course the Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci. There are hundreds of meters of halls with paintings on the walls as show in the photo below.

One day is not enough if you want to see all the exhibitions. A good idea is to select the most interesting things and focus on those first. After that you can check if you have time for something else and if your feet can take you further. I noticed that Louvre provided a lot of walk and it was nice to rest my feet and have a cup of coffee although the lobby cafe was a bit pricey.

The Nike of Samonthrace shown in the photo below is a marble sculpture of the Greek goddess Nike. It is from a third century B.C and over 3 meters in height.

There were artists learning to reproduce the original master pieces in the hall. I did not know that this was even possible! Louvre must be the best place to learn from the masters.

I do not know any good parking places for caravans and motorhomes near Louvre. There is an underground parking, but that’s for passenger cars only. I would suggest to leave your RV further away and arriving by Metro. There is a station called Palais-Royal-Musée du Louvre, so it’s easy to know when you are there.

Louvre was a great place to visit and I’ll definately visit there again in my next Paris visit. There were so many interesting exhibitions that I had to skip.
