Huhtalo cockpit cover review

Huhtalo cockpit cover

Cockpit is the coldest place of motorhomes. Most of the heat is lost through large windows and doors. The situation can be improved by using an insulated outer cover. This leaves the cockpit as a living area and there is no need to separate it from the caravan part. The cockpit cover reviewed here is manufactured by Huhtalo in Finland. We have tested the cover during cold winter days, but also during summer time.

There are separate models for each motorhome base. The Transit model fitted perfectly for 2008 model Transit. The cover insulates doors and windscreen. It is fixed in place by flexible bands and small plastic hooks.

Characteristics

The cover is filled with insulation material and there’s also a lot of air. The cockpit was significantly warmer with the cover than without. There was no moisture in the windows and the door panels were not cold. T-shirt was enough although the outside temperature was well below 0 degrees of Celsius (32 °F).

The Huhtalo covers are two-toned. One side is always silver, but there are few color options for the other side. The silver side can be used on top during the summer days. This will help to keep the inside of the motorhome comfortably cool.

The fabric looked weak as a first impression. However, the cover hold up well during our long term test.

Some drawbacks

The cover was easy to take into use. However, it was not so easy to pack away. There’s a lot of air inside the cover and it was harder to roll than a sleeping bag. Another drawback was the plastic hooks. They attach very well into standard Ford fenders. However, if you have installed plastic mud guards the hooks will keep falling off.

Summary

Huhtalo cover is highly recommended if you use motorhome during cold winter days. The cover makes living much more comfortable and the motorhome is evenly warm. There are easier to pack solutions for summer use only.
